Charbel’s teenage years were marked by much frustration. For a period in his life, he lived destructively, with gambling addiction and suicidal thoughts. One day Charbel realized that the only one who could change his situation was himself. He took control of his life, dared to dream, and began setting goals. And when the dreams gained momentum, so did the desire to share.
With the vision to de-dramatize cultural encounters and create understanding for differences, Charbel began lecturing. Today he is one of Sweden’s most sought-after speakers on treatment, reception of refugees, and integration. His integration work has been highlighted many times in national media and he has won many awards.
Charbel has been a program host for Swedish Radio’s program “Karlavagnen” on multiple occasions, participated in numerous podcasts, and ensured that the world becomes a little better through the social initiatives he has founded. Among others, Förortsinspiration, which has been highlighted several times in media contexts.
The lectures are based on research and practical value exercises aimed at increasing understanding to de-dramatize cultural clashes. During the lecture, opportunities for self-reflection, discussions, and questions are also provided.
Working with diversity and inclusion as a leader is not always easy as challenges arise when misunderstandings take place. The growing skills shortage may be due to our tendency to associate with those who resemble ourselves, which of course creates a sense of security but at the same time increases the gaps. We continue to recruit in familiar ways, often people who resemble ourselves. However, if you gain increased insight into and understanding of others’ differences and their cultural background, a density of perspectives is created which in turn leads to us daring to change our thought and behavior patterns.
